Anticoagulation therapy is the most widely used treatment to block the activity of coagulation factors. Managing proper clotting is critical to your health. Clots that form in the heart, veins or arteries can block blood flow and cause a heart attack, stroke, or damage a limb or other parts of the body.
UHD’s INR/Coumadin Clinic is designed to optimize therapeutic anticoagulation by minimizing bleeding risks, minimizing time to therapeutic levels, minimizing time spent to do the test and learn results and to increase patient education, monitoring and compliance. Our healthcare professionals can offer timely, professional advice about monitoring and dealing with your blood conditions.
Patients who are taking Warfarin (Coumadin®) to prevent blood clots can now have their blood tested and monitored with a simple fingerstick in our INR/Coumadin Clinic. The CoaguChek XS® System allows the patient’s INR to be determined in less than five minutes. A UHD nurse then adjusts the dosage as needed and determines the optimal frequency of the INR.
UHD’s INR/Coumadin Clinic is located within our Blue Earth Clinic by appointment only.
